A wonderfully balanced expression from the core Caol Ila range, this 18-year-old is malty and thick with notes of Caol Ila smoke and phenols, a lovely Islay single malt without extreme levels of peat.
Extra ageing has calmed the impact of the phenols, with the peat arriving on the palate late, and tempered by smooth oak. A very mellow, mature Islay malt.
Nose: subtle, with hints of peat, vanilla and liquorice
Palate: creamy, with notes of almonds and pineapple
Finish: subtle, with peat and a touch of pineapple continuing to the end
